The Language Center at the Deggendorf University of Applied Sciences opened in the winter semester 2001/2002 with the intention of expanding the foreign language program. Not only will a wider variety of foreign languages be offered, but the language courses will be tied into the accompanying certificate programs which students will be able to complete along with their studies. The main focus of the Language Center is on teaching oral ability and listening comprehension skills. Written expression, text comprehension and the various forms of a language ("grammar") will also be practiced, but communication skills are of primary importance. Absolute correctness is not the goal. For that purpose we consider small groups, as well as group and partner work, as essential components of our language program.
