The Server room

All of the necessary data processing components for the computers and network operation systems are placed here.

The network found on the new university complies with the most modern level of technology (made up of a so-called structured cabling system). The medium used to transfer data are leading light waves (until the end machine) and category 7 twisted pair cables. ATM with 155 MBit per second and Ethernet with 10 and 100 MBit per second are used for the applied protocol. Switches made by the 3COM firm are used in the area of active components.

Along with the network components, a network naturally needs a Server with certain services. Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 Server and Linux are used as the Server Operation Systems. The NT Server contains all of the user specs and it is run through the Microsoft Exchange-Server, which is responsible for the in house e-mail exchange and for the Internet. The webserver for the Microsoft Internet Information Server is NT and for Linux is Apache used.

A freely accessible Computer-Lab

The freely accessible Computing Center is an important tool for all of the students. For example one can conduct Internet research or work on a final thesis can be carried out using a specific Office product (MS Office or Staroffice).

The existing 25 workplace computers consist of the Intel Pentium II PCs with a tact frequency of 400 MHz. The computers also contain over 128 MB RAM, a Matrox G200 graphic card, soundcard, LS-120 disk drive and a 17" screen. A PC is in addition furnished with a ZIP-drive and color scanner.

The Computer-Lab can also be used for big events. For this there exists a mounted digital beamer with a canvas screen and built-in speaker. The connection possibilities are not only limited to a PC, but are varied: Video, TV, etc.

A centrally set-up network printer

The network printer in the Computing Center is regarded as being very good. Every student can print out 100 pages free of charge per semester here and on the entire campus. Additional print-outs must be paid for separately.
