Hochschule Deggendorf

Program costs

There is no tuition. At this time the Bavarian government fully funds the program. Student fees are about 70 Euro per year. Some books that you need for your courses can be borrowed from the library, but still you should budget at least 500 Euro per year for textbooks, off-campus seminar costs, required calculator (Texas Instruments BA II PLUS), and other course materials.

You will need to prove that you have the resources to live and study in Germany for one year. A bank statement showing 6600 Euro on deposit should suffice. Most students can live on a budget of 550 Euro (1Euro=$1.07) covering all basic living expenses, including accommodations. This will not allow for luxuries, very many social activities, or the costs of maintaining a car.

Rooms or apartments cost between 200 Euro and 350 Euro per month per person including utilities. The housing Office provides a service to assist individual students to find accommodations either in the new student hall or private lodgings, varying from a furnished single room with facilities for self-catering to a shared flat or an unfurnished flat with kitchen and bathroom. Some accommodation is within walking distance of the Fachhochschule but others must be reached by public transport.
Subsidized lunches are served in the student cafeteria (cost: 2 to 4 Euro). Grocery costs are reasonable by international standards.
Students from outside the EU are allowed to work up to 90 days during vacations. Don’t count on saving the money you earn from employers during your student internships. If you work outside of Deggendorf, your travel and relocation costs could easily consume the 500 Euro/month that the typical intern earns.
