What is Mentoring?
Mentoring is when an experienced professional expert (the Mentor) gives deliberate support and help to a younger person (the Mentee). Mentoring combines both business as well as personal aspects, and consists of the elements of coaching, consulting, supporting, networking and the exchange of ideas.
-
Aims
The aim of the programme is to give talented and gifted students an experienced manager at their side for guidance and support. Study goals and the course of study should, in particular, be discussed, and the Mentor should try and help the young person with their entry into professional life.
-
Participants
Mentees can be excellent students from any Faculty at the University of Applied Science. They should be engaged, open and interested. The role of Mentor is aimed at experienced older professionals from a particular company, or from a scientific research institute.
-
Duration of Programme
There are no time restrictions to the Mentoring Programme; it should continue for the entire course of study. However, it can be terminated at any time.
-
Procedure of the Mentoring Programme
Those students with excellent grades, who are interested in the Mentoring Programme, apply to the Career Service with a CV and Statement of Motivation (Personal Statement). Career Service looks for a suitable Mentor for each respective student taking into consideration his or her interests and wishes. Once a year there is a reception for Mentors at the University of Applied Science, in which new Mentors are officially named and there is an opportunity for an exchange of experience between Mentors and Mentees.
