ObjectivesThe goal of this course is to help business students learn how to use and manage increasingly complex information technologies to revitalize business processes, improve business decision making, and gain competitive advantage. The course emphasizes the essential role of Internet technologies in providing a platform for business, commerce, and collaboration processes among all business stakeholders in networked enterprises and global markets. Students will be equipped with the principles of information technology required to understand and implement future advancements in technology, such as how computers function, how the various components are classified, and how to evaluate technology, software applications and systems software. Students discover the underlying structure of important business programs and how, when and where to optimally deploy various programs. They also discover the importance of sharing information among different applications of an office suite and how to optimally structure and organize data. The course begins by laying the foundations of information technology and then introduces the key technologies of software, hardware, data resource management and networks. The main body of the course deals with business applications and IT solutions development. Common business software applications are also covered such as text processing, spread sheet calculation, business graphics and personal information management.
